Sunday, March 15, 2009Writting good web page content is a must
Reading a website is different than reading a book, therefore before you start spending money on web site campaigns, be sure your website is built in for search engine writing standards. Lets discuss a few simple rules you want to avoid when building a website:
Don't waste your website visitors time Remember the old adage, "Time is money"> Most people decide whether they are interested in what your website has to offer in just a few seconds. Make sure your welcome page provides the most crucial and appealing information about your business or service in the first paragraph. The number one time waster is a heavy loading page with to much flash animations and images. Make sure your website html pages are not too heavy, otherwise you risk loosing your visitors before they pull up your website. Most all visitors need to find what they are looking for fast, otherwise they go elsewhere for it. As a webmaster you must make sure your data structure is well categorized and divided into relevant content for your pages , categories, titles and sub titles. A visitor should be able to navigate throughout your website easily and successfully. Avoid too flash "Special affects" By this I mean do not include flash heavy movies and avoid music if you can. As we mentioned earlier, flash can have a heavy loading time which damages the viewer experience, besides too much flash may be annoying and search engines can't index it properly. Music is a good, but somehow music and websites do not mix well. If you want to put in background music anyway, make sure a user can silence it quickly. Or better yet, let the user click the "Play" button to and begin the music. Pop ups and new web pages If you have links pointing to your domain pages in your site, I strongly recommend you not to use the pop up option _blank, to open these links in new window. New windows are a good idea if you don't want the visitor to navigate away from your website, but after many years of experience, I learned that users prefer to click on the "Back" buttons. Text Use standard fonts, and unlike my site, people prefer viewing black font on white backgrounds. I just personally like our site black and we use lots of video in our sites and it shows up better for that purpose in my opinion. So you want a high ranking website? Let's take a look at some of the basic tips to help you acheive maximum sucsess.
Title tags - Use descriptive keyword(s) and keyword phrases relevant to your website. A common mistake is that the same title is used on multiple pages. Use Content on each page - I have noticed a lot of websites that use all flash and/or images. Note that search engine spiders can't read text with in a movie or graphic, therefore they should be used sparringly. HTML does allow you to add alt tags and modify meta information, however, the best results come from proper written content. So balance each page out accordingly. If a lot off video and images are required, use services like http://www.youtube.com and http://www.picasa-2009.com/, as hosting the images and movies can increase visibility. Web Blogs - Web blogs are highly indexed by search engines if setup correctly ad should be used or integrated into your exsisting website. Keyeord Links - Use keyword links back to you psges, ie Denver Web Design Avoid backlinking from web s that are not indexed in Google. User Friendly Navigation - Make sure your navigation is user friendly and consitant. Sitemaps - Add an xml sitemap to your website for the search engine spiders and add a sitemap for your web user. These pages if done correctly also can increase your visibility in Search Engine directories. Add Video to Your Website - Adding video to your website can be informative and increase user retention. See our video spokesperson RSS Feeds - Most blogs will automatically generate RSS feeds for you web content. Submit these wherever possible and allow users to follow your site. Take care when building your website and have patience. Top 10 listings arn't acheived overnight. I recommend you spend at least one hour a day writting to your blog, registering to social media websites, write in other peoples forums and get a good SEO book. The following is a short narrative on the process USWebCentral.com employs to build your website.
Step 1: Web Questionnaire The development process begins when you fill out a questionnaire. The answers on the questionnaire will help us identify what your needs are and how we can create a site that will effectively communicate with the audiences you would like to reach. Step 2: Site Navigation From the information collected in step one, we will draft a sitemap and set a meeting with you to discuss our recommendations. In the meeting, we will explain the strategy we applied in organizing the site and listen to your feedback for changes and modifications. Step 3: Content Gathering Once the basic structure and scope for the website has been finalized, we will outline the development phases and articulate the services we will be able to assist you with. We also will create a content checklist to assist you as you gather information for your website. It’s important to review the content section in the minimum materials and requirements handout for more information about preparing your content. Step 4: Content Editing After you’ve assembled all the content for your site and sent it to us, we will write transitions and introductions for your website and make suggested edits for web copy. With your final approval on the content, we will proofread the information and assemble a production binder. Step 5: Production and Design The production and design team will build the website to mirror your sitemap and include any special features and/or designs that were discussed. After the first draft of the development site is ready for review, we will conduct an internal review and set a time to meet with you to present the site. The development site will not impact your current site while we are in production. The development site will be built in a separate directory and moved over to replace your current site completely when you are ready to go live with your new site. Step 6: Review and Quality Assurance After the presentation of your development site, we will send you a link so you can review it on your own and submit changes. We will then implement your changes and conduct a final quality assurance review. Step 7: Delivery of Finished Product With your approval of the development site, we will begin the process of replacing your old site with your new site (also known as “going live”). This process takes a couple of days behind the scenes; however, to you and your users the switch of the site will be instant. Step 8: Maintenance The maintenance of your site is just as important, or perhaps even more important, than the building of it. Your beautiful new site will only be good if the information is current. For this reason, we will address your maintenance plans and options at the beginning of the project. Depending on the scope and the size of the site, our office might be able to offer maintenance services to you. If we are unable to offer maintenance assistance, we will discuss other options with you. Listed below are some useful and important tips for designing a professional and high quality seo web site provided by web design denver company USWebCentral.com:
User Friendly Navigation: Navigation of links on your site play a big role in determining your visitor loyalty (the amount of time your visitor stays and explores your site). Ask yourself this question, What do visitors do as soon as they land on your site? They would probably read the content of the present page, then look around to find other pages that interests them. Simple Clean Layout Design: A clean web template that uses a lot of white space enhances the site's looks. Try to keep the focus on your content and call to action, use a custom user friendly web tempalate for this. Use fonts that will be available on all computers to prevent your site looking messed up, and have your meta-taga and title pages layed out correctly. Optimize Load Time: Make sure your web site's home or landing page loads fast. For this you must: Minimize Graphics, Flash and scripts: These can greatly affect your overall page size. Optimize your HTML & script code: Make sure that your site doesn't have any unwanted tags or unused scripts.Use Server Side Include (SSI) files whenever possible. SSI files once called from the web server reside in its cache so on subsequent requests they load faster. Consider Screen Resolutions: A site that is easy-to-use always encourages visitors to a call to action. For sites with long pages of content, you want to minimize the amount scrolling required. Suppose your site doesn't look good for a particular resolution, it is very probable that the visitor will exit the browser window feeling that the web page is not for their viewing. Designing stretch layouts that fit any screen resolution ensures that you know all your visitors see a visually appealing and professional site. Add Video to Your Website: Adding video to your website will increase your visitor rention and greatly increase your conversion rates. See video spokesperson for mor information. Web site scalability: Make sure your code and design is scalable. As technology advances and configuration of computers & monitors keep increasing and varying, it is impossible to test your site in all screen sizes and platforms. Web Blogs: Having a properly coded custom web site blog can greatly exopose your website to your target audience. Cross Browser Compatible: Make sure you check your site for Internet Explorer 5+, Mozilla Firefox 1.0, Opera 7.0 and Netscape Navigator 6+ as they constitute 95% of the worlds browsers. It seems as though every time I hear about any place or product that I have not heard of I find myself looking to the internet for answers. Having just moved to Denver, CO I have a lot to learn about the city and all the stuff in it. Friends will tell me about a cool bowling place, restaurant, best burger , etc…. and they finish their description by suggesting that I “google” it.
I’m noticing it more and more probably because many people are now considered tech savvy and the younger generations are evolving into a whole new breed. Check out this ridiculous teen. Have you ever been in a part of town that you are unfamiliar with and stumble upon an amazing place? It’s the same way on the internet when people are just cruising around google.com or even sites such as stumbleupon.com. Any given search with come up with thousands, or hundreds of thousands of possibilities for anything that you type, but how do you set yourself apart from all the others? Obviously you need an attractive website that has the professional touch so guests can see that you care about how you represent your business. I like to look around and find a place that has great recommendations from their clients. Find a website that you think looks cool? Look around to see who made it. A site that looks great and includes lots of fun features such as Flash or Dreamweaver applications is always a plus. Right now I am a big fan of a video spokesperson. I just think it adds a nice extra touch by grabbing your attention and introducing the company and what they do. I found a great Denver Web Design Company that has a lot of fun adding video spokespeople to their client’s websites. Check out this place and you can add one for free to your site to see how it will add life to your website. Instead of hiring an actor that you have never met, if you are in the Denver area, you could be your own video spokesperson doing whatever you like on your website. A great looking website is what you need to start selling or promoting your product or service, but that is really just the start. Unless people know exactly what they are looking for how are they going to find you? As I mentioned earlier, they will probably look to google to provide them with answers. But who really has the best pizza in town? How does google know? It doesn’t eat pizza, but there is a system to figure out how google “thinks” called Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short. It’s a confusing process that is a game, a puzzle, a process and a science. You can learn more about it here from an SEO Company. Most people usually click on one of the top ten results in a search engine but how do you get there? Search Engine Optimization. In all likelihood you don’t have the time or know how to get your website there without shelling out a lot of money to search engines, but it’s important to find an SEO organization that can help you. Here is where you need to beware. There is no overnight secret cheat code to get it there. It takes time so be patient. Be cautious with companies promising quick results or a onetime fee for immediate results. It is very labor intensive and takes time to build your status. Just think of a few keywords that describe who you are and/or what you do. Those key search words are where you help your SEO team get started. It’s sounds odd but Search Engine Optimization is the new marketing weapon. That first page on a search engine is like landing a minute commercial spot during the super bowl, whereas page 34 is more like 3am on public access cable. You get the picture.
